Compact Digital Camera FS18 - 28mm Wide-angle 4x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens and 16.1-megapixel CCD
The DMC-FS18 features a 28mm wide-angle 4x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm camera equivalent: 28-112mm). The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The 4x optical zoom lens captures beautiful shots of people or landscapes with 16.1-megapixel resolution. The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 4x zoom ratio to powerful 9x zoom at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less.
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Apart from the digital image correction, the MEGA O.I.S. corrects a jolt of light axis by shifting the O.I.S. lens unit to offset it. Thus the image is not affected digitally nor deteriorated at all. You get clear, sharp images in exchange for nothing. The MEGA O.I.S. lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination to preserve the mood, and works for macro shots and zoom shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake.
In iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, advanced detection functions work automatically and simultaneously to optimize your settings, making it easier than ever to take beautiful photos every time. iA Mode includes MEGA O.I.S. to detect hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control to detect subject movement, Face Detection AF/AE to detect faces in the frame, AF Tracking to continually track a moving subject and keep it in focus, Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions and Intelligent Exposure to detect the brightness level.
The DMC-FS18 can record motion pictures in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 24 fps in Motion JPEG format). The DMC-FS18 can also upload movies onto YouTube, and photos onto Facebook. All you have to do is checkmark photos and movies you want to share and connect the camera or SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card to a computer. Uploading automatically starts just by following the guidance. With operation this easy, you can instantly share your photos and movies with your family and friends all over the world.
With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas – outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas – are automatically detected. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, this technology precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are clear and crisp. The Intelligent Zoom extends zoom ratio by approx. 1.3x maintaining the image quality even combining a digital zoom. 4x optical can virtually extend to 5x equivalent.
